Why is Lyoto Machida being blocked by this Dana White guy?

Lyoto has shown that he is the best fighter of all times, where is the MMA values (if there is one besides the money)?
Lyoto is according to many fighters, the most original and dangerous fighter of the last fighting era.

because he’s boring as hell. He rarely finishes fights and spends most of his time running around the ring.

He’s not the kind of fighter anyone cares about.

MMA values? The fact that Dana let a man with one win have a title shot (Brock Lesnar) and called it the biggest fight in UFC history should let you know what he values. Hell, I just watched UFC 82 the other day, and Joe Rogan goes on about how Yushin Okami needs to stop being boring, or he’ll be put on the backburner. To answer your question, it’s because Machida is considered boring. Aside from Sokoudjou, I don’t think he’s actually finished anyone in the UFC.

Silva vs. Machida = money. My money, anyway.

I agree that Machida is a dangerous opponent for any fighter. His style is as original as his background. However there are a few things against him currently: one, he is in the thickest division in the UFC, two, he is a non-agressive fighter that usually only counters, three, 6 of his last 8 fights have gone to decision, four, he has not won against a top opponent in the UFC. His only fights in the UFC were against Sam Hoger, David Heath, Nakamura, Sokoudjou and Tito Ortiz. Yes Soko and Tito were good competition but he hasn’t fought a top 5 light heavyweight fighter in the UFC yet.
Yes I agree that even though he has won against Stephen Bonnar, Rich Franklin, BJ Penn and Vernon White none of these fights were in the UFC. The UFC’s main fan base isn’t all that familiar with Machida; the hardcore fans are just not the mainstream fans.
I think Machida makes a great addition to the LHW division; I think he needs to take on someone like Jardine, Jackson, Evans, Liddell, Wanderlei Silva or even a rematch with Rich Franklin would be great. I think he needs to fight one person in title contention and win. Then and only then do I think he deserves a title shot.

I like Machida alot, he is one of my favorite fighters, but I don’t think he is being blocked by anyone and I don’t think that he has shown that he is the best.

Rashad Evans is also undefeated and just beat legend Chuck Liddell, he is rightfully deserving a title a shot first.

Machida is high on the list, but his opponent that just backed out due to injury hurt his championship time frame.

If he wins 1 or 2 more fights, he will get a title shot for sure.

Dana White doesn’t hold people back.

He almost never finishes a fight. grinding out decision wins if boring. Machida is technically great but most people want to see a fight the doesn’t go the the score card. plan and simple he doesn’t sell PPVs.

  6. karatescientist Says:

because most people don’t understand fighting and want to see the strongest win against someone with reall skill. Most UFC fans are fans of grappling styles as they have been sold that all fights end on the ground. Lyoto goes against this dogma and shows that a real karateka with great skill can hold his own against anyone. They don’t like that so say that he should not move out of the way and take a punch. do you ever wonder why the Great Fedor does not enter UFC?

  7. Roberto W Says:

because the casual mma fan is just plain stupid ,
they boo for no reason and when it goes to the ground
they go for a piss, lyoto desevered a shot a long time ago,
why did dana promise fedor an immediate title shot if he came
to the ufc .same old politics.

  8. THAT GUY v.2 Says:

Because he is Calib Starnes with skills.
