I don’t think it will happen as they are training partners. Lyoto should get a title shot against the winner of Forrest v. Rashad. I wouldn’t be surprised if we saw Anderson fight at 205 shortly.
Anderson and Lyoto are great friends and training partners. They have both said publically that they would not fight against one another. It won’t happen.
Anderson says he won’t fight him ’cause they’re friends/training partners. I think the phrase he used was something like “205 belongs to Machida”.
That said, if it did happen, it would be interesting. I think Silva packs more power and might actually have the submission skills to tap him if it goes to the ground. And he’s one fighter who probably won’t be perplexed by Machida’s unorthodox striking. On the other hand, Silva has little takedown defense, while Machida’s clinch takedowns are pretty good. I think Machida might also have a longer reach, and he’s got a smothering top game on the ground, and good overall strategies. I might give a slight edge to Silva, just based on his ability to finish fights. But I think the first round would be boring as sin.
Anderson Silva vs. Lyoto Machida will probably not happen. Machida is in a different weight class (205) than Anderson (185) plus they train together. Anderson has spoken out about how he would never fight Paulo Filio because they have the same coach and I think that science applies here too. Anderson would turn it down

Machida is one of the fighters Silva won’t fight, they’re friends.
